Bitter Harvest is a 1981 TV drama starring Ron Howard as a rural dairy farmer who faces a deadly chemical threatening his livelihood and his family. Ned De Vries (Ron Howard) runs a small dairy farm with his wife, Kate (Tarah Nutter). At first, their family enterprise runs well, then a newborn calf will not nurse properly, milk production is down and the De Vries' infant son develops a severe rash. They ask for help from their more experienced neighbor, Walter Peary (Art Carney). He recommends they have the local Agricultural Board take a look. After running some tests, the Board determines that the problem lies with malnutrition and bad management. Ned begins his own investigation and discovers a toxic element in the feed that they use for the cows and the chemical can be transmitted to humans through the milk. Ned tries to work his way through the bureaucratic red tape, while trying to keep his farm and family from perishing.moreless
