Black August is a drama movie starring Gary Dourdan and Ezra Stanley. The movie is based upon the true story of George Jackson (Dourdan). He was a civil rights revolutionary as well as being a Black Panther. The movie features the events that took place in Jackson's life in August 1970. During that month, Jackson's brother Jonathan (Stanley) broke into a federal courtroom to protest the treatment his brother was receiving at the hands of the police and government at the San Quentin prison he was being kept in. His brother, and other militants, then took hostages within the courtroom and threatened to kill them unless his brother was released. Will Jonathan gets what he wants, and engineer the release of his brother, or will he end up joining his brother in jail? This movie explores the delicate situation of how to react when you or your family has been wronged. Jonathan feels within his rights to protest and take these actions, as his brother is being punished unfairly, but might have gone too far in his protest.moreless
