Blade Runner is Ridley Scott's science fiction film noir featuring cinematography and elements that have influenced science fiction films since its release. In a dystopian Los Angeles in 2019 where corporations are king and police forces are continuously present, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) is a "blade runner", tasked with tracking down criminal replicants and hunting them down. Replicants, biologically engineered humanoids used as slaves and soldiers on off-world colonies, are illegal on Earth, and Deckard's job is to "retire" them. After being forced out of retirement by his superior, Deckard and his partner, Gaff (Edward James Olmos) are tasked with tracking down six replicants that have escaped and are now living on Earth. The leader of the replicants, Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer), is seeking a way to extend his and his compatriots' lifespans; replicants have a built-in failsafe that kills them after four years. As Rickard hunts down the replicants, he begins to question what he is doing and questions himself as well.moreless
