Blame it on Fidel (La Faute '' Fidel) tells the story of 9-year-old Anna de la Mesa's (Nina Kervel) struggle to cope with her parents' transformation into communist activists. The scene is Paris circa 1970, where anger toward the government and the influence of populist movements in Spain and Latin America has stirred up thoughts of revolution among the educated middle class. A proper girl, Anna is peacefully shielded from the unrest, safe within the walls of her large house or the haven of her Catholic school. Her peace comes to an end, however, when some extended family comes to visit and converts her parents, Marie (Julie Depardieu) and Fernando (Stefano Accorsi), into left-wing radicals. As Anna quickly discovers, the first victim of revolution will be her cozy way of life. Directed by Julie Gavras, this 2006 French drama follows the perspective of its pampered, young protagonist as she tries to make sense of the vagaries of the grown-up world.
