Bling is a documentary that was directed by Raquel Cepeda and takes three rappers on a trip to find the real cost of diamonds. In the film, rappers Raekwon, Paul Wall and Tego Calderon travel to the West African country of Sierra Leone to find out where diamonds come from and what the connection is to their hip-hop lifestyle. They visited different diamond mines and amputee camps that left the three of them devastated at what they were seeing. The illegal diamond trade has destroyed many families and taken many people's lives over the years. The film discusses how the blood diamond industry, as it is often referred to, was increasing at the same time the hip-hop industry was growing and "bling" was becoming a way of life. The men talk about how they feel embarrassed to be wearing diamonds but the people of Sierra Leone ask them not to stop buying them because it is the only way they can make money to survive. The film is not meant to discourage viewers from buying diamonds but to educate them on how to purchase cruelty-free diamonds. The film also includes several interviews including those with Kanye West, Big Daddy Kane, Mr. T and Jadakiss.moreless
