Blithe Spirit is the 1945 comedy film based on the play of the same name by Noel Coward. The story follows a novelist Charles Condomine (Rex Harrison), who is doing research for his next fictional book. He wants to write an expose of a criminal psychic, and consults Madam Arcati (Margaret Rutherford), an eccentric medium. She comes over to his house to conduct a seance, along with Charles, his wife Ruth (Constance Cummings), and their guests the Bradmans. The medium has some peculiar rituals and doesn't seem to be doing much to the eyes of everyone else, but towards the end of the session she is surprised and concerned by something which happened. Everyone else thinks that nothing took place, but it turns out that Madam Arcati has summoned the ghost of Elvira (Kay Hammond), Charles' first wife. Charles is the only person who can see and hear her, and she causes trouble in his new marriage. Can they get rid of the ghost and keep their marriage together or will it all end in disaster?
