Blood Alley tells the story of American merchant marine Captain Tom Wilder (John Wayne) who has been illegally imprisoned by communist China for his democratic beliefs while in international waters. Once freed, Captain Tom Wilder attempts to liberate the villagers from their oppressors by transporting them to the free Hong Kong. Having only an old slow ferryboat at their disposal, they must travel the dangerous Blood Alley water way to reach freedom. The film was originally a novel written by Albert Sidney Fleischman. The 1955 adventure depicts Shanghai's Blood Valley, visited by Albert Fleisman as a sailor in the US Navy. The film was directed by William Wellman and produced by Batjac Productions. It was filmed in a small shrimping village in San Francisco.
