Blood and Donuts is a 1995 comedy/horror film directed by Holly Dale. After 25 years of sleep, the vampire Boya (Gordon Currie) awakens in a Toronto basement in 1994 after somebody hits him with a golf ball. Boya is an unusually sensitive vampire, preferring to feed on rats and birds instead of humans. After gathering his belongings hidden in a grave, he takes up residence in a cheap hotel next to a donut shop and befriends Earl (Justin Louis), a taxi driver, and Rita (Fiona Reid), who works at the donut shop. As Boya tries to protect his new friends from evil criminals, he must also avoid the clutches of his ex-girlfriend Molly (Helene Clarkson), who is desperate for him to make her a vampire. Nominated for three Genie Awards for its costumes, actors, and original screenplay, Blood and Donuts is considered to be a cult classic film by many horror movie buffs.
