Movie Summary

Edward Zwick
Blood Diamond is a 2006 dramatic film that tells the story of Solomon Vandy (Djimon Honsou), a diamond-mining slave, Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio), a mercenary and gunrunner, and Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), an American journalist. When Solomon discovers a large pink diamond, he attempts to bury it before his enslavers can see it, but is caught in the act. He is sent to jail, where he eventually is connected with Danny, whom hears of the diamond and wants Solomon to lead him to it. Maddy is writing a story about the diamond trade and offers Solomon and Danny the ability to get into Kono in exchange for information regarding blood diamonds. As the trio ventures through the African war zone, Danny exposes the secrets behind the lucrative industry, and Maddy then calls for a plane to rush foreigners out of the conflict area. Solomon and Danny fight their way towards the diamond, but become caught in the violence that surrounds them. Directed by Edward Zwick, Blood Diamond was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Actor (DiCaprio) and Best Supporting Actor (Honsou).moreless
