Blood Red is a 1989 romantic drama and action film directed by Peter Masterson. At the very end of the 19th century, a family emigrates from Italy to try their luck and settle down in Northern California. They decide to make a living with a winery, working hard to overcome the challenges of a new culture, language and way of life. The trouble begins when an ambitious and calculating industrialist, Bradford Barrigan (Dennis Hopper), decides that he must buy the grape-growing land to build his railroad. The Italian families, including patriarch Sabastian Collogero (Giancarlo Gianne), surprise Barrigan by refusing his offer and ignoring his increasingly violent and intimidating threats. As Collegero tries to organize his fellow immigrants against Barrigan's greed, he runs into trouble in the form of his rival, Don Antonio Segestra (Al Ruscio). When a romance springs up between two of the rival families, Barrigan sees the vulnerability he needs to plan his attack.
