Blood, Sweat, & Teeth brings the action and human drama of no-holds-barred mixed martial arts to the screen. Directed by Adam Warren, this 2000 documentary explores the controversial fighting craze from a new angle; Warren focuses not on superstars in multi-million dollar bouts, but on a small, rough, amateur tournament, the Gauntlet Trials, for about 100 spectators in Macon, Georgia. David "Rhino" Rivera is on a mission to win the tournament and its ultimate prize: an opportunity to turn pro. Rivera's determination is strong, but interviews with his coaches reveal doubts that he has what it takes. Standing between him and victory are a host of tough competitors with as many different motives as there are martial art styles. When the day of the tournament arrives, each of them steps onto the canvas ready to fight to the bitter end. Aimed at making the sport more accessible to the public, Blood, Sweat & Teeth presents a hard, but honest look at the amateur MMA scene.moreless
