His mother, Sarah Lee Gates (Angela Lansbury), is not as fond of Chadwick's laid back plans and carefree lifestyle and wants him to work at the Great Southern Hawaii Fruit Company, where he will be well occupied with hard work. Chadwick does not want that job, but the fact is that he needs a job. So he goes to work as a tour guide for his girlfriend's agency and fun times ensue. Blue Hawaii was well received, earning a 1990 ASCAP Award and nominations for a 1962 Grammy Award, a 1962 Golden Laurel Award, and a 1962 Writer's Guild of America (WGA) Award.
