Blue State is a 2007 romantic comedy from first-time feature director Marshall Lewy. The year is 2004, and like many contemporary liberals, die-hard John Kerry campaigner, John Logue (Brekin Meyer), has told the world that he will move to Canada if George W. Bush is re-elected President of the United States. After the election -- Bush defeated Kerry 286 to 251 -- Logue sudden loss of his job and girlfriend motivate him to make good on his pledge. Fortunately, he learns about marryacanadian.ca, a leftist service with the aim of gaining Canadian citizenship for disillusioned Americans. Logue accepts their invitation to visit Winnipeg, and puts out a classified ad looking for a traveling companion. He winds up with Chloe Hamon (Anna Paquin), a pretty and mysterious young woman with her own reasons for wanting out of the U.S. As the two prove the be an awkward match, they consider their lives and whether Canada really has all the answers.
