Blue Steel is an early Western drama starring a young John Wayne as a federal marshal who uncovers an evil plot by a rich rancher to steal from his fellow homesteaders. John Carruthers (John Wayne) comes to a small town to investigate a string of robberies by Polka Dot Bandit (Yakima Canutt). While riding with the local Sheriff Jake (George "Gabby" Hayes), they save the beautiful Betty Mason (Eleanor Hunt) from a gang robbing a pack-mule train after they have just killed her father. Carruthers and the sheriff realize that Malgrove, one of the town's richest citizens, has actually organized the henchmen to stop all the incoming supplies. Malgrove wants to frighten the other citizens into selling their land to him at dirt cheap prices because there is a vein of gold located beneath the town. Now Carruthers and the sheriff will have to stop the evil plot. Robert N. Bradbury writes and directs this classic 1934 Western.
