Blue Thunder is a 1983 film starring Roy Scheider as Frank Murphy, a pilot with the LAPD assigned to fly Blue Thunder, the most advanced law enforcement helicopter ever made. Murphy is a man plagued by trouble. He's a veteran of the Vietnam war with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and his family life is in shambles. He devotes himself to his new assignment flying Blue Thunder with his field partner, Richard (Daniel Stern). Blue Thunder boasts powerful armaments, state-of-the-art surveillance equipment, and stealth technology. Shortly after taking command of the elite aircraft, a city councilwoman dies in a mysterious murder. Murphy begins snooping around and discovers an evil plot to use Blue Thunder for a violent restructuring of the local government. It's up to Murphy to face his old Army rival, Colonel Cochrane (Malcolm McDowell), and protect Los Angeles from a devastating attack by the heavily armed subversives. Blue Thunder is an exciting action film, written by Dan O'Bannon and directed by John Badham.
