Bob Marley: Prophecies and Messages is a documentary exploring the Rastafarian roots of Marley and his band, the Wailers. The film takes us behind the scenes in a backstage setting, where we hear from both Marley and Wailers keyboardist Tyrone Downey. It's based mostly on Marley's views of Rastafarianism and the ideology that inspired him. Marley was resolute in fighting for freedom and just treatment of all humankind, and against laws of oppression. We see that side of him come alive in candid on-camera conversations. Featuring captivating interviews and never before seen archive footage of Marley's live performances, the documentary delves into the subject like never before. It takes us beyond the traditional audience perception of Marley and his work and into the tropical, tradition-based culture that molded the music. The film is directed by Don Letts, who was recently recognized with a Grammy for his work on a long-form music video.moreless
