Bollywood/Hollywood is a 2002 musical romantic comedy film, written and directed by Deepa Mehta, and starring Rahul Khanna and Lisa Ray. The movie takes on the classical theme of presenting a faux fiancé to ease familial pressure, but gives it some Bollywood flair. In the film, Rahul Seth (Rahul Khanna) is an Indian-Canadian man whose white pop-star fiancé dies in a bizarre levitation accident. It is a tragedy, but his meddling mother (Moushumi Chatterjee) insists that he find a new fiancé as soon as possible and this time she should be a respectable Indian girl. Until he finds a fiancé, his sister's wedding will be put on hold-which really puts the pressure on for Rahul, because what his mother does not know is that his sister is already pregnant! It is hard for Rahul to find a respectable Indian girl in Ontario, Canada, so he resorts to employing a faux fiancé (Lisa Ray). But, during all that time together at family functions, sparks start to fly between the two would-be love birds. Bollywood/Hollwood won three awards, a 2003 Genie Award, a 2003 Student Jury Award, and a 2003 Audience Award, and received nominations for five other awards, including four additional 2003 Genie Awards and a 2003 Director Guild of Canada (DCG) Award.moreless
