Bones is a 2001 horror movie starring Snoop Dogg as the ghoulish drug kingpin Jimmy Bones. In the 1970's Bones was a respected neighborhood protector, but when he was murdered by a corrupt cop, his ghost is left to haunt his old building. Through the years, the neighborhood becomes a ghetto, and the once elegant building is condemned. When 4 kids buy the decrepit building to renovate it and open a dance club, they come across a black dog, who is the spirit of Jimmy's vengeful spirit. Now resurrected, Jimmy Bones is on a mission to hunt down those responsible for his death and seek revenge. A horror tribute to 1970's blaxploitation films, Pam Grier appears as Jimmy's love interest.

Metacritic Score

  • 80

    Variety Joe Leydon

A sly mix of haunted house melodrama, slasher pic mayhem and retro-blaxploitation iconography, spiced with dollops of grisly, dark comedy.

  • 70

The New York Times Stephen Holden

In exalting the very worst of humanity, Bones displays a special glee and an unusual density of scary imagery.

  • 40

    Los Angeles Times Gene Seymour

The movie is over the top and garish. Its transitions often are sloppy and crude. But it brandishes its excesses like a loud, retro suit.
