Boots & Saddles is a 1937 western that puts a rancher's death-bed wish in the hands of a horse race ridden with scandal. In the film, Master Edward (Ronald Sinclair) goes to his father's ranch to collect his inheritance after his father had passed away. Foreman, Gene (Gene Autry) and his pal Frog (Smiley Burnette) had made a promise to their boss on his death-bed that they would turn his son into a rancher and keep the ranch opened. The pair worried about the promise they made when they meet Edward and discover that he is prim and proper and knows nothing about horses or ranching. Edward tells them that his plan is to sell the ranch as soon as possible and go back home, but after much prodding Gene is able to convince Edward to stay. Neighbor Jim (Bill Elliott) is very upset because he has been eyeing up the property for quite awhile. As things progress, Jim is able to talk Gene into a horse race where the winner gets the ranch. What Gene does not know is the Jim is planning a scheme that will ensure that Jim wins the race.moreless
