Born in '45 is a narrative feature film by painter and documentary filmmaker Juergen Boettcher. His only narrative feature, Born in '45 is inspired by Italian neo-realists, with social observations and poetic verse. We see inside the lives of a married couple, Al (Rolf Roemer) and Li (Monika Hildebrand), who are living in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin. Recently married, the two decide to divorce after only a couple months. Alfred loves motorcycles, and wants to head on a solo journey across Berlin to regain his independence and freedom. His young wife Li decides she wants a divorce, and Al also pushes for it. He goes on his journey to clear his head, riding through Berlin and meeting both friends and strangers along the way. Will he return to Lisa? The film was caught in a wave of politically motivated film bans in 1966, and was originally not allowed to be shown.
