Branded to Kill is a 1967 Japanese crime drama directed by Seijun Suzuki and written by Takeo Kimura and Atsushi Yamatoya. The number three ranked hit man in all of Japan (Jo Shishido) carries out his job with impassive calm and complete confidence in his abilities, while striving to become the number one hit man. The job is loaded with stress and stressful situations, and Jo copes by sniffing boiled rice and having lots of sex. When he botches his latest job, dangers start to abound. He is sentenced to death for his failure and is betrayed by his own wife (Mariko Ogawa). He comes into conflict with a woman who surrounds herself with dead birds, dead butterflies and dead bugs. He seeks the Phantom, the number one hit man (Koji Nanbara) in an attempt to stop the death sentence, and they have a confrontation. Other actors include Isao Tamagawa, Anne Mari, Hiroshi Minami and Franz Gruber.
