Bread and Tulips is an Italian romantic comedy by award-winning filmmaker Silvio Soldini. The film centers around Rosalba Barletta (Licia Maglietta) who is financially comfortable but bored in her relationship with her husband Mimmo (Antonio Catania), who cheats on her with other women regularly. Rosalba is abandoned half way through a lackluster getaway with her husband who has to cut his trip short due to business. On her way back home, Rosalba takes a detour and stops in Venice for the night. While she dines at a quaint Venetian restaurant, she meets a most humble and charming maitre d' named Fernando (Bruno Ganz). Rosalba and Fernando take an interest in one another and suddenly life isn't so bad for Rosalba. But when Mimmo's mistress shows up and begs her to come back home, she is forced to face reality and make a decision. Bread and Tulips won 5 Nastro d'Argento awards and 9 David di Donatello awards in 2000 when it premiered.moreless
