Breakfast on Pluto is a 2005 Irish film directed by Neil Jordan (Michael Collins, The Crying Game) that is based on the book of the same title by Patrick McCabe. The film follows the trials and tribulations of a transgender orphan named Patrick 'kitten' Braden (Cillian Murphy). The story tells his life story from when he was left on a doorstep in a small, northern Irish coastal town, to when he is seeking a life of glam and beauty throughout his teen and later years in London as she searches for her biological mother. The film takes place in the seventies and uses colorful and creative drawn animation in conjunction with live image to tell the often-dark life of a struggling individual. It shows us an underbelly of London, one of turning tricks and doing drugs, and creates a cityscape of turmoil set to the backdrop of IRA terrorism. The story is ultimately a journey of discovery and a touching, rousing, look into a character rich with depth.moreless
