Breakin' is a 1984 film that brought breakdancing to the mainstream. The film follows a struggling young jazz dancer, Kelly (Lucinda Dickey) as she is introduced to this new form of street dance. With Ozone (Adolfo 'Shabba-Doo' Qui''ones) and Turbo (Michael 'Boogaloo Shrimp' Chambers), Kelly, now known as Special K, becomes the sensation of the street. Though Kelly loves breakdancing and is clearly excelling at it, her instructor Franco (Ben Lokey) disapproves. The trio also face resistance on the streets from another group of dancers, Electro Rock. They are made up of Poppin' Pete (Timothy Solomon), Poppin' Taco (Bruno Falcon), and Lollipop (Ana 'Lollipop' S''nchez). It all comes to a head at a major dance competition. More important than the winners and losers, Breakin' features amazing dance sequences and classic breakdance songs including, "There's No Stoppin' Us" by Ollie & Jerry and "Tour de France" by Kraftwerk. Breakin' is an energetic film that made breakdancing a permanent part of popular culture.moreless
