Breaking In is a light hearted character study about the relationship between two burglars at different points in their careers. Ernie Mullins (Burt Reynolds) is an aging thief who has managed to procure a modest nest egg, and wants to finish up one last job and be done for good. While cracking open the safe in an upscale home, he meets Mike (Casey Siemaszko), a young kid that snuck in through the window of the same home to raid the fridge and watch television. Seeing promise in the young man, and wanting help for his big score, Ernie takes Mike under his wing, teaching him the skills that helped him to become a successful criminal. But while the kid can handle the mechanics of breaking into houses, he does not take to Ernie's lifestyle, wanting to live more lavishly and enjoy his earnings. Through their shared experiences teaching, and learning the ropes, Ernie and Mike also learn a bit about each other as well. Bill Forsyth directs this charming buddy picture between two unlikely good guys.moreless
