Brenda Starr is a 1989 American film directed by Robert Ellis Miller and starring Brooke Shields, Timothy Dalton, and Tony Peck. The surrealist adventure film follows Mike Randall (Peck), the writer of the popular comic strip Brenda Starr. Mike is feeling stuck with his characters and is unmotivated to write more comics. When Brenda (Shields) comes to life and discovers how unappreciative he is of her, she flees the strip. In order to rescue his main character, Mike must then draw himself into the strip. Brenda, who is a reporter for the New York Flash, goes to the heart of the Amazon jungle to do a report on a scientist who has discovered how to make a powerful rocket fuel of water. Her investigative reporting uncovers that the scientist plans to use the fuel to blow up the planet. Brenda Starr was one of the lowest rated films of 1989 and was a box office bomb.
