Brian’s Song is a biographical dramatic film directed by Buzz Kulik based on the life and friendship of football players, Brian Piccolo (James Caan) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Gale Sayers (Billy Dee Williams). When the two became players for the professional NFL team, the Chicago Bears, they were not quite prepared for the competition as they vie for the same running back position. It is a fun and competitive little rivalry, which slowly turns into a deep friendship as the two become roommates on the road. It is Brian Gale relies on when his future is threatened by a near career destroying knee injury, coaching him and helping him make a full recovery. Their friendship though is pushed to the limit when Brian is diagnosed with terminal and aggressive form of cancer. Devoted until the end, Gale stays with Brian and his family before he succumbed to the illness at twenty-six. Considered one of the best made for television movies, it won an Emmy Award for Best Dramatic Program as well as Emmys for teleplay and Best Supporting Actor.moreless
