Brideshead Revisted is a 2008 drama co-written by Andrew Davies and Jeremy Brock. It is directed Julian Jarrold and based on the novel of the same name written by Evelyn Waugh. Middle class Charles Ryder a skilled artist (Matthew Goode), escapes the stifling ambitions of his father by studying history at Oxford. While there he befriends Sebasian Flyte (Ben Whishaw), a wealthy son of a title holding family. Sebasian invites Charles to spend the summer at his family's estate, Brideshead. Charles joins the Flyte children when they travel to Venice. While there, Charles falls in love with Sebastian's sister, Julia (Hayley Atwell). The romance is stifled because Charles is an atheist and the Flytles are Catholic. Charles then experiences a falling out with the wealthy family after he is blamed for Sebasian's self destructive behavior. Years later, during World War Two, Captain Charles Ryder is assigned to Brideshead. His memories of the special summer he spent at Brideshead come flooding back.moreless
