Broadcast News is a comedy-drama that explores the nature of what is genuine and what is fake in the news industry. Aaron Altman (Albert Brooks) has been a devoted and respected reporter for many years. He has worked closely and successfully with his producer, Jane Craig (Holly Hunter) during that time, even nursing a deep and secret crush on her that has never been fulfilled. Nevertheless, both of them appear to be fairly happy with both their lives and their careers. Things take a dramatic turn, however, when Tom Grunick (William Hurt) becomes the new anchorman. Despite not being particularly smart, Tom is a genius at reading the news, a fact that enrages Aaron and fascinates Jane. Aaron eventually gets his chance to anchor the news in Tom's place, but everything goes horribly wrong and Aaron becomes more inconsolable than ever. Jane, meanwhile, can't reconcile her respect for Aaron's intelligence and her attraction to Tom's talent and good looks. Broadcast News proves that sometimes the lives of those who create the news are more fascinating than the actual news they are reporting.moreless
