Brokedown Palace is a 1999 film about two American girls that are sent to jail in Thailand for smuggling drugs. In the summer prior to beginning their first year in college, Alice Marano (Claire Danes) and Darlene Davis (Kate Beckinsale) decide to take a trip to Thailand. When they arrive, they quickly meet a dashing Australian man named Nick Parks (Daniel Lapaine), who invites them to accompany him on a trip to Hong Kong. While boarding the flight, however, the two girls are found to be carrying a large amount of heroin and are arrested. The prosecution begins quickly and both girls are sentenced to long prison sentences to be served in the grim women's prison known as Brokedown Palace. With the help of lawyer Hank Greene (Bill Pullman) and DEA Agent Roy Knox (Lou Diamond Phillips), the girls struggle to prove their innocence so that they can return to their normal lives back in America.
