Brother Orchid is a 1940 dramatic crime comedy directed by Lloyd Bacon. John Sarto (Edward J. Robinson) is a crime boss who is unhappy with his current career choice. Although he is still rather young, he decides to retire and travel through Europe to gain worldly experiences. Before he leaves, he assigns leadership of the gang to his right-hand man, Jack Buck (Humphrey Bogart), who is eager to take the position. Five years later, John decides to give up on his retirement, and returns to see Jack and explain that he is ready to take back leadership of the gang. However, Jack is not glad to see John and certainly not ready to hand over leadership of the gang. Jack gathers those who are still loyal to him, Flo Addams (Ann Sothern) and Willie "The Knife" Corson (Allen Jenkins), and the trio take off on their own. John tries to stay out of Jack's way until Jack starts to bother a Florcarian monastery.moreless
