Brother Sun, Sister Moon is a biographical movie made by Franco Zeffirelli about St. Francis of Assisi, an Italian preacher from the twelfth century. Francesco (Graham Faulkner) has just returned from war, and lies in bed for months recovering both mentally and physically. As he recovers, he is haunted by memories of his hedonistic lifestyle from the past, a time when he imbibed in alcohol, women, and other deviant habits without much of a conscience. Francesco recovers fully and decides to abandon his previous habits. He meanders into the woods and surrounds himself with the serenity of nature. Upon returning to his village, he announces that he will be leaving his family and culture in Assisi to pursue a life devoted to God and nature. He strips his clothes off, and embarks on a journey to find God. Much to everyone's surprise, many people begin to follow him on his mission. As Francesco travels with his companions to meet with the Pope in Rome, we learn why this man is such a dominant figure in religion.moreless
