Brothers is a 2004 drama that revolves around brothers Michael (Ulrich Thomsen) and Jannik (Nikolaj Lie Kaas). Michael is a successful major in the Danish Army with two lovely daughters and a happy marriage. Michael's brother, Jannik, is a drifter who was recently released from prison after a botched robbery. When Michael is kidnapped in Afghanistan and presumed dead, Jannik steps in to provide support to Michael's wife and daughters. Soon Michael's wife, Sarah (Connie Nielsen), begins to develop feelings for Jannik. Miraculously, Michael is found alive and returns home from Afghanistan. The tension between Michael and Jannik erupts almost instantly when Michael returns home. Michael's experience as a soldier and prisoner of war has changed him. Angry and lost, Michael struggles with feelings of jealously and rage as he tries to adapt to life as a civilian. Winner of a Sundance Film Festival Audience Award, this film inspired a 2009 remake featuring actors Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal.
