Brown's Requiem is a 1998 noir film inspired by a book leading crime novelist James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential, American Tabloid) authored in 1981. In 1998, Jason Freeland adapted the script to film which he also directed. Fritz Brown (Michael Rooker), a former LAPD cop once shamefully fired from his position, now finds comfort working in a quieter realm of law enforcement as a private investigator. A golf caddy named Fat Dog (Will Sasso) hires him to follow his younger sister Jane (Selma Blair) who he suspects is involved with a high-ranking mobster named Solly (Harold Gould). As he trails the 17-year old flake, Fritz learns Jane is indeed involved in a surreptitious affair with Solly, who is more than 3 times her senior! It isn't long before the private investigator becomes entangled in a web of murderous secrets and lies. Will Fritz be the victor in this fast-paced game where suspicion and doubt reign? An excellent adaptation of a lauded American classic.
