Bruno (2000) is the story of an eight year old boy who lives with his eccentric family in a small town. When Bruno develops a fondness for wearing dresses, he becomes a target of the town's bullies and is rendered an outcast. He attends a strict parochial school run by Mother Superior (Kathy Bates), a stern nun who is at odds with Bruno's new interests. Along the way, Bruno encounters an increasingly bizarre cast of characters as he searches for individuality and acceptance among his peers and elders. Gary Sinese plays Bruno's father, a police officer who is embarrassed by the negative attention Bruno is receiving. Meanwhile, his mother is an obese, flamboyant woman who is too busy eating to notice that the town seems to be turning against her son. His only friend is Shawniqua (Kiami Davael), a fellow student with an adventurous streak. Also starring Brett Butler, Joey Lauren Adams, and Marissa Tomei.
