Bruno is the 2009 mockumentary comedic film starring Sacha Baron Cohen as a gay Austrian fashion journalist who ventures to the United States in hopes of becoming an American star. Accompanied by his assistant's assistant Lutz (Gustaf Hammarsten), Bruno (Cohen) first attempts an acting career, but fails miserably. When Bruno attempts an interview with Paula Abul, she walks out on him because of his use of "Mexican chair-persons." Bruno then produces a celebrity interview pilot and screens it for a test audience. Because nudity, innuendo, and offensive language, the audience hates the pilot and one person even claims it is "worse than cancer." Bruno's antics become more extreme and eventually he travels to the Middle East in hopes of solving the ever-present political turmoil. After upsetting various political leaders by calling "King Osama" a "dirty wizard or a homeless santa," Bruno adopts a child from Africa and then returns to the United States. He then appears on a reality show and gets the child taken away from him. A series of more ridiculous situations make Bruno one of the most over-the-top films ever made.moreless

    Variety Todd McCarthy

Undeniably funny, outrageous and boundary-pushing, this further documentation of Sacha Baron Cohen's sheer nerve will draw an abundant share of "Borat" fans.

In spite of Mr. Baron Cohen and Mr. Charles's high-level skills and keen low-comic instincts, Brüno is a lazy piece of work that panders more than it provokes.
