Buffalo Bill is the fictionalized retelling of the larger-than-life soldier and showman Buffalo Bill (Joel McCrea). Born William F. Cody, Bill actually gained his nickname after taking a contract to supply the Kansas Pacific Railroad company with buffalo meat for their workers. The film begins with Bill's work as an Indian scout, forging a peaceful coexistence with the native people and defending them against the attempted exploitation of the politicians in Washington. Continuing with his time as a war hero in the United States Cavalry, the movie goes on to depict the courtship of his future wife, Louisa Frederici (Maureen O'Hara). Buffalo Bill was and remains one of the legendary figures of the American Old West and for good reason. This film, directed by Oscar-winning screenwriter-director William A. Wellman, is an adventurous retelling of his life that even Cody himself would have appreciated for its exciting, if not completely accurate depiction of this fantastic showman.moreless
