Burglar is a 1987 crime caper starring Whoopi Goldberg as a semi-retired jewel thief who must clear her name of murder. Bernice Rhodenbarr (Whoopi Goldberg) runs a quiet bookstore in San Francisco that she funded originally as a "cat burglar." Bernice has no interest in returning to a life of crime, but a greedy cop, Ray Kirschman (G.W. Bailey), blackmails her into taking one small job. Otherwise, he will submit evidence he held back from one of her past arrests. When out on the job, Bernice discovers a dead body and she leaves the scene, but police find evidence linking Bernice to the crime scene. Bernice has to solve the murder with only a befuddled dog groomer, Carl (Bobcat Goldthwait), and a hopeless drunk, Frankie (Elizabeth Ruscio) for help. Bernice dons a variety of disguises to stay ahead of the police detectives Nyswander (John Goodman) and Todras (Anne DeSalvo) following her trail.
