Bush Christmas is a 1983 Australian film directed by Henri Safran and starring John Ewart, John Howard, Nicole Kidman, Mark Spain, and James Wingrove. The film is a remake of a 1947 film of the same name, which was based on the novel by Ralph Smart and Mary Cathcart Borer. The Thompsons, a family of farmers living in rural Australia, are struggling to keep their farm out of foreclosure. Money is tight and they desperately need something to not only raise their bank account by their spirits as well. The Thompsons put their hopes in Prince, their horse. If he wins the New Year's Cup they will have enough money to pay off their debt. Unfortunately two men steal the horse and flee into the mountains. Because the Thompson father is off with cattle, the Thompson children must set out on their own to rescue their horse. Helen (Kidman), John (Spain), and Michael (Wingrove) jump on their horses and venture off into the mountains.moreless
