California Split is a 1974 buddy film directed by acclaimed filmmaker Robert Altman and starring Elliot Gould and George Segal. The film follows a burgeoning friendship between two gamblers at different stages in their careers. Bill Denny (Segal) makes a living through his gambling, constantly weighing his possible winnings and losses at the various games he pursues. Charlie Waters (Gould), on the other hand, only gambles on occasion and for pleasure, maintaining a day job at a magazine. As they become closer friends, however, Charlie slides deeper and deeper into gambling addiction. Charlie begins to lose his ability to see the consequences of his losses. When he goes dangerously into debt, Charlie and Bill head to Reno in a last-ditch effort to turn a little money into a small fortune that can get Charlie back on his feet. California Split is an endearing character story about two friends captivated by a shared hobby, co-starring Ann Prentiss as Barbara Miller and Jeff Goldblum as Lloyd Harris.moreless
