California Suite is a 1978 adaptation of the eponymous play by Neil Simon. The film follows the trials and tribulations of four couples who are guests of an upscale Beverly Hills hotel. Divorced couple Bill (Alan Alda) and Hannah Warren (Jane Fonda) are in the hotel to discuss the custody of their child. Sidney Cochran (Michael Caine) and Diana Barrie (Maggie Smith) are in from London to attend the Academy Awards. While staying at the hotel, their relationship continues to disintegrate because of Sidney's secret life. Dr. Willis Panama (Bill Cosby) and Dr. Chauncey Gump (Richard Pryor) have brought their families to California for a vacation that presents multiple obstacles to finding relaxation. Lastly, Marvin Michaels (Walter Matthau) is in town for his nephew's bar mitzvah. Things get interesting when his brother sends a prostitute to his room. California Suite is a hilarious and touching adaptation of Neil Simon's hit play.
