Camille Claudel is a 1988 biographical drama centered around the life of sculptor Camille Claudel, who is more famously known as Auguste Rodin's archangel and muse. The film was written and directed by French filmmaker Bruno Nuytten (Barocco, Tchao Pantin) and stars Isabelle Adjani (Possession, One Deadly Summer, Queen Margot) and G'rard Depardieu (Cyrano de Bergerac, Green Card). Camille (Adjani) is a young, passionate and ambitious artist with a knack for sculpting. One day she has the good fortune of meeting Auguste Rodin (G'rard Depardieu), an established French sculptor of great caliber who also has his way with the ladies. She is surprised to learn her interest in him is not unrequited - as it turns out, Rodin is intrigued by her beauty and natural talent. Camille puts her artistic career on hold and devotes herself entirely to helping Rodin with his work. While they fall madly in love with each other at first, through time their relationship begins to deteriorate and ultimately ends on a bad note - one that sends Camille into an emotionally-charged downward spiral. Camille Claudel was nominated for several awards for her stellar performance, including an Academy Award for Best Actress. A must see for all those who enjoy biographical dramas.moreless
