Candleshoe (1977), directed by Norman Tokar, is a family adventure and heist film based on the novel Christmas at Candleshoe. When an old con-man, Harry Bundage (Leo McKern), discovers that the stately old Candleshoe Manor could be housing a pirate treasure consisting of Spanish doubloons, he recruits a young orphan, Casey Brown (Jodie Foster) to help him find and retrieve the treasure. Casey poses as the long-lost granddaughter of the owner of the manor, Lady St. Edmund (Helen Hayes), to gain access to Candleshoe and in hopes of finding clues to the treasure's whereabouts. Little do Harry and Casey know, Lady St. Edmund is broke and owes money in back taxes. As time and the search go on, Casey discovers something more valuable than treasure and she continues to search for the doubloons, but for the benefit of Candleshoe Manor and not for Harry. By doing so, she puts her life at risk and must recover from injuries to stop Harry from taking what doesn't belong to him.moreless
