Capote must battle between personal literary ambitions and trying to maintain his role as a confidant to one of the killers. Through this self-education, we see Capote begin to unravel in his own weakness for seeking fame, his undoubted alcohol problem, starvation for attention, and social conflicts of being openly gay in a time with little acceptance.moreless
