Capote is a 2005 bio-pic about the life of famous writer Truman Capote (Philip Seymour Hoffman). The film is based on the book, In Cold Blood, by Capote himself and Hoffman poignantly displayed the character on screen in an unparalleled likeness, a performance that would win him numerous awards including the Academy Award for Best Actor. The film becomes an obsessive adventure into the need for self-redemption in the most dyer of circumstances. The film opens with Capote's investigation and interviews with two condemned killers, in which he would write his book about. The film then becomes a struggle of Capote's psyche and morals. Capote must battle between personal literary ambitions and trying to maintain his role as a confidant to one of the killers. Through this self-education, we see Capote begin to unravel in his own weakness for seeking fame, his undoubted alcohol problem, starvation for attention, and social conflicts of being openly gay in a time with little acceptance.moreless
