Captain Blood is a vintage film about Irish Dr. Peter Blood (Errol Flynn), a convicted criminal. The film begins when Blood is found guilty of treason after treating a wounded rebel and sold into slavery at the English colony Port Royal as punishment. He is purchased by Arabella Bishop (Olivia de Havilland), the daughter of local military commander Colonel Bishop (Lionel Atwill). Arabella is a kind mistress, but Blood is nonetheless determined to escape captivity. When the colony comes under attack from Spanish raiders, Blood and some fellow slaves steal a raider's ship and flee the colony. As criminals, the escaped slaves cannot return to their homes, so they turn to a life of piracy. Several years later a raid carried out by Blood's partner Captain Levasseur (Basil Rathbone) brings Arabella and Blood together again - but can Blood protect her and save the colony of Port Royal from French assault? Captain Blood is the heart-pounding first film in an eight film streak of pictures starring both Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland.moreless
