In the South Seas, Captain Bill Jones (Houston) of the schooner "Marigold", who also known as Captain Calamity for his propensity for getting into fights, is broke and in need of re-stocking on the island of Quica. A young Australian named Carr (Norton) offers a Spanish gold doubloon in exchange for passage to Tapillo, where Carr can get a ship back to Sidney. Bill quickly spends the gold at a local merchant to get food and supplies, giving trader Joblin (Natheaux) the mistaken impression that he has found a horde of Spanish gold. Joblin conspires with two other local merchants and gathers a crew of cutthroat pirates to seize the treasure. Bill leaves port with Carr and other new passengers including the drunken Dr. Kelkey (Wilbur) and his ward Madge Lewis (Nixon), who is searching for her father's murderer. A romance ensues between Madge and Bill, who is unaware that he saved Madge as a child from a sinking ship. However, trouble looms on the horizon in the form of a ship filled with the hired pirates led by Black Pierre (Lewis), and a final climatic swashbuckling pirate battle at sea!moreless
