Captain Fracasse is a 1929 French silent adventure film based on Theophile Gautier's famous novel, Le Capitaine Fracasse. Directed by Alberto Cavalcanti and Henry Wulschleger, this black-and-white film has been digitally restored and now features English titles. The movie is set during the reign of Louis XIII in the 17th century. Impoverished nobleman Baron de Solignac (Pierre Blanchar) is living a lonely existence in his crumbling ancestral castle. One night, he lets a group of traveling actors stay at his estate and falls in love with the leading actress, Isabelle (Lien Deyers). When the group is due to leave, the Baron considers the bleak future at his estate and decides to join them on their travels to Paris under the stage persona Captain Fracasse. On the trip, Isabelle is kidnapped by a rich young Duke (Charles Boyer). Fracasse then sets out to rescue his beloved with the help of the other actors and his expert sword-fighting skills.
