Captain Kidd is a 1945 adventure yarn about the infamous pirate, Captain William Kidd (Charles Laughton), who convinces King William III (Henry Daniell) to allow him to escort an English merchant ship through the dangerous pirate infested waters surrounding Madagascar. Kidd presents himself as an upstanding citizen of New York in search of a suitable commission with the Royal Navy and the King falls for the ruse, commissioning him to protect the treasure filled Quadagh Merchant ship. Kidd also convinces the King that he should fill the ship's crew with prisoners released from Newgate Prison, who will receive their pardon in exchange for their services. Unknown to Kidd, one of the prisoners released is Adam Mercy (Randolph Scott), the son of Admiral Lord Blayne, a ship captain who Kidd killed earlier. Will Adam get his revenge on Captain Kidd and save the merchant ships? Captain Kidd was directed by Rowland V. Lee, from a screenplay by Robert N. Lee and Norman Reilly Raine.moreless
