Filmed during at the end of the 1950's Communist scare, this film concerns a group of Communist agents who concoct a plan to destroy the Panama Canal. To do this they kidnap a brilliant scientist and forcibly make him travel with them on a steamer headed to their headquarters in South America. However, the ship's Captain "Scarface" Trednor learns of the plot, and while he may not make his living honestly, he is loyal to his country, and forms a plan with his loyal crew to stop the agents. Meanwhile, several other subplots ensue on the ship, including a young man who is desperate to return to the USA, a young woman who reunites with her father on the trip, and a blackmailer on the trail of their victim.
